Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal presentations in clinical practice, yet effective rehabilitation requires more than simply prescribing a list of strengthening exercises.
This evidence-informed CPD lecture explores the key exercise physiology principles that guide safe and effective shoulder rehabilitation. Drawing on current systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical practice guidelines, the lecture examines how progressive loading, motor control training, and patient-specific exercise programs can improve outcomes in common shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff–related shoulder pain.
Participants will learn how to apply the FITT principle (frequency, intensity, time, and type) when designing rehabilitation programs, how to recognize red flags and safety considerations, and how to integrate exercise with osteopathic treatment strategies. The session also explores the role of manual therapy within modern rehabilitation frameworks and highlights the importance of clinical reasoning when progressing exercise programs.
