This lecture explores the role of professional boundaries within clinical practice, examining common ethical challenges faced by manual therapists and the responsibilities outlined within the Ahpra shared Code of Conduct. Drawing on research examining professionalism, patient trust, and healthcare misconduct, the session highlights how boundary issues can develop and how clinicians can identify early warning signs.
Practical clinical examples are used throughout the lecture to demonstrate how ethical reasoning applies to everyday osteopathic consultations, including communication, informed consent, digital interactions with patients, and managing emotionally complex situations.
Participants will also explore how professional boundaries align with core osteopathic principles such as patient autonomy, therapeutic rapport, and supporting the body’s capacity for self-regulation.
